As the latest snowstorm sweeps through, ski enthusiasts hoping to hit the slopes at Piedmont and Lester might have to curb their expectations. Trail grooming crews are out in the field, attempting to conquer the task of packing and prepping the trails, amid less than ideal conditions.

Recent weather bulletins have hinted at a challenging scenario. Unfrozen ground and the deposit of moist snow have teamed to create a slushy underlayer, complicating the grooming process. According to a Facebook update by the grooming team, "With unfrozen ground, moisture has wicked up into the fresh snow, creating multiple inches of slush underneath."

The grooming team remains determined to try to salvage some areas for skiing. They plan to start laying down groomed trails early tomorrow morning, but they have advised that the likelihood of producing a solid snow base required for quality skiing is slim. An anticipated warmup later in the week threatens to further degrade the situation.

Despite the relentless push of the elements, the spirited crew is unwavering, fueled by passion and commitment to their work. "Our crew is passionate about giving it a try," the grooming team revealed, as they look forward to assessing and potentially grooming additional trails at Hartley and Magney. They have also announced to timely update the public regarding trail conditions, with a promise of a new post coming Thursday, March 28.

While the efforts of the grooming team underline resilience in the face of weather's whims, skiers are advised to be patient and adjust expectations. Winter sports devotees may still be able to enjoy fresh snow under modified conditions if the weather allows and the team's efforts bear fruit.
