South Miami Caretaker Charged With Abuse of Elderly Woman in Assisted Living FacilitySource: Miami-Dade Corrections

A South Miami caretaker has been charged with the physical abuse of an elderly woman under her care. Josephine Gurri, a 77-year-old woman, allegedly committed the abuse while operating an assisted living facility out of her own residence, according to South Miami police.

The victim, a woman with Alzheimer's disease, was staying at the Good Family Home, Inc., located at 6851 SW 79th Terrace, which also doubles as Gurri's home. Police say that Gurri was captured on camera by a previous caretaker striking the elderly woman "on the buttocks and lower back area," Local 10 News reports. The alarming footage was later sent to the victim's granddaughter.

The caregiver was arrested at her assisted living facility/home on Thursday evening. Following her arrest, Gurri made an appearance in bond court yesterday, where she was granted a $1,000 bond and ordered to stay away from the woman she's accused of abusing. NBC 6 Miami reports that the charge against Gurri is for the physical abuse of an elderly or disabled adult.

As of yesterday afternoon, Gurri was still being held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center. Her bond was set by a Miami-Dade judge who, ordering her to stay away from the victim, found probable cause to charge her, as stated in the court records.
