ATLANTA – Residents and visitors in Atlanta can look forward to warm and mostly sunny conditions for the upcoming week, but should also keep an eye out for potential showers and thunderstorms, particularly as the week progresses. The forecast shows that today will be mostly cloudy with temperatures reaching near 79 degrees, while southeast winds could blow with gusts as high as 20 mph, according to the National Weather Service.
Tonight's skies are expected to clear up partly, with the low dipping around 60 degrees and that same southeast wind biting at 10 to 15 mph and gusting once again as high as 20 mph, come Sunday, Atlantans will be treated to mostly sunny skies and a high close to 81 degrees, and while the wind continues to sweep from the southeast, it's estimated to be somewhat more tempered than previous days. Sunday night will follow suit with mostly clear conditions, the low hovering near 59 degrees; however, a gentle southeast wind will persist, gusting up to 15 mph.
As the week begins, the forecast is predicting sunny weather with Monday's highs approaching an inviting 83 degrees and a lighter southeast breeze at 5 to 10 mph, though the weather service does suggest a 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms creeping in after 3 a.m. on Monday night. Moving into Tuesday, the odds of precipitation hang around 20 percent with a slight chance of showers, and thunderstorms being a possibility after 9 a.m., despite the day being mostly sunny and temperatures climbing near a toasty 84 degrees.
The rest of the week appears to show similar patterns with Wednesday expected to be sunny and a bit warmer with highs around 87 degrees, and while the night brings partly cloudy skies, the low should stay steady at 64 degrees. Thursday's forecast maintains the 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms amid mostly sunny skies, with temperatures remaining high at around 87 degrees, and while the odds for precipitation persist into Thursday night, Atlantans will again see partly cloudy skies with a mild low of 64 degrees. The NWS also indicates a slightly increased chance of showers and thunderstorms at 30 percent on Friday but nevertheless anticipates a mostly sunny day with high temperatures close to 84 degrees.
