Man Accused of Inappropriate Touching on Spirit Flight from Dallas to Fort LauderdaleSource: Broward Sheriff’s Office

A man was busted for allegedly getting handsy with a female passenger aboard a Spirit Airlines flight, cops said.

Jeffrey Tate, 69, found himself in hot water after the woman accused him of reaching under her skirt during a flight to Fort Lauderdale from Dallas-Fort Worth. Once the plane touched down at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport, Tate was swiftly arrested. The incident occurred Tuesday evening, with authorities responding to the assault call around 8:54 p.m., according to the WSVN report.

The Broward Sheriff's Office revealed that upon landing, deputies met with the victim who detailed the alarming encounter. As per the victim's account, the assault took place as she was passing by Tate's seat after exiting the bathroom. A judge later set Tate's bond at $7,500 and he was ordered to avoid any contact with the victim and not to show up back at the airport while his case is unsettled.

A witness on the flight, preferring to remain anonymous, recounted the disturbing event, saying, "I witnessed a lady walking down the plane, exiting the bathroom, and this man on the aisle stuck his hand up her skirt, up her dress," she told WSVN, adding that the incident was immediately addressed post-landing. "The sheriffs came on to the plane and they escorted the victim out and then, a few minutes later, totook him out in handcuffs," she said.

Spirit Airlines responded to the arrest with a brief statement saying, "We are aware of the allegations of a passenger on a flight from DFW. We take any allegation of this nature seriously and are conducting a thorough investigation into the matter," CBS News Miami reported. The incident comes amid an FBI campaign warning passengers of an increase in reported sexual assaults during flights, with such incidents rising 60 percent over the past four years. Tate currently remains in jail facing one count of touch or strike battery.
