Local roaster Compass Coffee has opened a new cafe in Spring Valley. It is located at 4850 Massachusetts Ave. NW, next to Pizzeria Paradiso. 

The mini-chain cooks up single-origin coffees and blends at its roastery in Shaw. They're served as espresso or drip coffee in this bright, modern space with a fireplace, variety of seating options and a kids area. Breakfast sandwiches and baked goods are among the food options.

Compass Coffee has already attracted fans thus far, with a 4.5-star rating out of three reviews on Yelp.

Nick F., who was among the first Yelpers to review the new spot on February 2, wrote, "This is a great location with plenty of space, including a child play area and a fire place. Waypoint is my favorite brew and nitro cold brew is my daily drink."

And Christina R. wrote, "This spot has a good cappuccino and the croissants are amazing. I'm so excited to have a good coffee shop in the area. The space is really comfortable with plenty of seating."
