New chicken shop CHiKN now open in OaklandPhoto: CHiKN/Yelp

A new chicken shop has made its debut in the neighborhood. Located at 3712 Forbes Ave. in Oakland, the new arrival is called CHiKN.

The shop serves hand-breaded, Nashville-style crispy chicken tenders, sandwiches and salads. There's also chicken and housemade waffles, topped with honey butter and maple syrup.

Diners can choose their spice level: from the mildest, "Southern" style, to "damn hot." And to help wash it all down, the bar features 12 rotating taps stocked with local craft beer. (Find the full menu here.)

With a 4.0-star rating out of 33 reviews on Yelp so far, the fresh addition is getting solid feedback from clientele.

Tyler V., who was among the first Yelpers to review the new spot on Feb. 1, wrote, "The chicken here is Nashville style — it's an oil-based spice as opposed to a sauce-based spice. It tends to run on the hot side as well; I got the medium spice level and it was pretty hot."

Yelper Karla D. added, “The chicken was juicy, tender and full of flavor.”

Intrigued? Stop in to try it for yourself. CHiKN is open from 11 a.m.–10 p.m. daily.
