The number of crime incidents in Santa Monica saw an overall decrease last month, after a previous rise, according to data from SpotCrime, which collects data from police agencies and validated sources.

Incidents fell by about 12 percent, from 3,124 in January to 2,747 in February.

The offenses most on the decline last month were theft and vandalism. Theft fell from 354 reported incidents in January to 335 in February. Vandalism incidents went from 82 to 66 for the month, or about a 19 percent decrease.

There were eight arson reports last month and 290 assault incidents. Arson incidents dropped from 12 offenses the previous month, while assault reports decreased by five incidents.

Among the few types of offenses that saw an uptick last month, burglary reports went from 167 to 193.

When it comes to crime patterns in different areas of the city, Sunset Park and Brentwood saw the largest decline from January to February.

Fridays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays experienced the most reported crimes last month. The largest decrease from the previous month occurred on Thursdays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays, while incidents on Fridays and Mondays went up. Comparing times of day, after midnight, midday and late afternoon saw the most crime last month on average each day.
