Baon DTLA brings Filipino fare to downtown Los AngelesPhoto: Baon DTLA/Yelp

A new Filipino and food delivery service spot has opened up shop in the neighborhood. Called Baon DTLA, the fresh addition is located downtown at 419 Seventh St.

The newcomer is a project from chef AC Boral, Eater LA reports, who is "known primarily for his Long Beach-based FIlipino pop-ups carrying the moniker Rice & Shine."

On the menu, look for small plates such as street tacos with adobo pork belly, cotija cheese and strawberry relish. A variety of signature rice bowls are on offer, complete with toppings like poached shrimp, ginger, taro leaves and fried egg.

Room for dessert? Come try ube suman — a sticky rice cake cooked in banana leaves with ensaymada butter. (You can check out the full menu here.)

With a five-star rating out of 15 reviews on Yelp so far, Baon DTLA seems to be a welcome addition to the neighborhood.

James S., who was among the first Yelpers to review the new spot on June 24, wrote, "Wow — fantastic addition to DTLA. ... Started with the Sinigang Lumpia (pork, rice and vegetables filled egg roll). Crisp, not greasy, and so good."

And Yelper MH H. added, "The portions were filling, the menu is uncomplicated and definitely get the pork belly adobo taco with strawberry pico de gallo. The acidity cuts through the pork belly fat perfectly."

Intrigued? Stop in to try it for yourself. Baon DTLA is open from 11 a.m.–5:30 p.m. on weekdays and noon–5 p.m. on Saturday. (It's closed on Sunday.)
