Hoodline crunched the numbers to find the best affordable vegan restaurants around New York, using both Yelp data and our own secret sauce to produce a ranked list of where to venture when cravings strike.
1. Ganesh Temple Canteen
Topping the list is Ganesh Temple Canteen. Located inside of a Hindu temple at 143-09 Holly Ave. in Flushing, this cafeteria, which offers an extensive menu of vegetarian and vegan South Indian fare, is the highest-rated cheap vegan restaurant in New York, boasting 4.5 stars out of 244 reviews on Yelp.
Yelper Sandra R., who reviewed the business on May 6, wrote, "People are so friendly. We ordered takeout during the lockdown. The food is absolutely delicious. The dosas are amazing. It hits the spot during a time like this."
2. Yonah Schimmel's Knish Bakery
Next up is Yonah Schimmel's Knish Bakery on the Lower East Side. Located at 137 E. Houston St. (near Forsyth Street) since 1910, this celebrity-favorite institution offers more than a dozen different knishes, including eight vegan varieties, as well as other kosher comfort food like latkes and kugel. Yelpers give it four stars out of 630 reviews.
3. My Pie
Upper West Side pizzeria My Pie is another much-loved, inexpensive go-to, with 4.5 stars out of 152 Yelp reviews. In addition to the classics, this Roman-style pizzeria offers cheese-less vegan pizza by the pie and by the slice. Head over to 166 W. 72nd St. (between Columbus and Amsterdam avenues) to see for yourself.

4. Veggies Natural Juice Bar
Over in Crown Heights, check out Veggies Natural Juice Bar, which has earned 4.5 stars out of 141 reviews on Yelp. This vegan-friendly spot serves up juices, smoothies, salads, sandwiches and fresh-made vegan baked goods. Dig in by heading over to 785 Franklin Ave. (between Lincoln and St. Johns places).
5. Spring Cafe
Finally, there's Spring Cafe, a Chinatown favorite with 4.5 stars out of 98 reviews. Stop by 153D Centre St. (near the Canal Street station) for sandwiches, burgers, bao buns and salads, all made with plant-based proteins and more.
