Texas has struck a pose on the global ballet stage as 18-year-old Frisco native Sebastian Bondar leaps the prestigious Prix de Lausanne ballet competition. According to FOX 4 News, Bondar didn't initially see himself worthy of the world-renowned event. "I had never even dreamed of applying. I never thought I was good enough, to be honest, and finally worked up the courage this year," Bondar expressed.

This local talent, who began dancing at just 12, finds himself among an elite squad, chosen as one of just 44 male dancers from a pool of 500 applicants worldwide to compete in Switzerland. Bondar's trek to the Prix de Lausanne also marks him as the first male dancer from Dallas to vie for the top honors, per Locgi.com.

The week-long event spans from February 2 to February 5 and will see Bondar performing in a mix of classical, contemporary, and modern dance pieces before an international panel of ballet experts. With sights set on scholarships to some of the most distinguished ballet institutions, the stakes couldn't be higher. "I'm one of only 7 boys in the U.S. selected to have gone to compete and there are only 10 girls from the U.S., so it's very, very selective," Bondar told FOX 4 News.

But Bondar's passion for dance is not a solo act, his lineage pulses with the same dedication to the craft. His father, a fierce ballroom competitor from Ukraine, and his mother, once a ballerina with the Washington School of Ballet, have been pivotal in his rising career, he told FOX 4 News. As Bondar positions himself on the precipice of what could very well be the defining moment of his young career, all eyes will be on this Frisco dancer as he pirouettes on the grandest of world stages.
