In a disturbing breach of privacy at Hoyland Elementary School, a janitor has been arrested on charges of installing hidden cameras in employee bathrooms. Erik Carreon, 41, was bagged by authorities after the devices were uncovered in an area restricted exclusively to staff members, the Houston Chronicle reported.

Carreon, who had been working for the Spring Independent School District, allegedly confessed to purchasing and mounting the cameras that recorded two female employees. According to the Houston Chronicle, he appeared in court on Jan. 4, where he faced the felony charge of invasive visual recording. His bond was set at $10,000, wich he posted for his release.

Following his court appearance, KHOU reported that Carreon's lawyer stressed his client's deep roots in Houston, where he has lived for 20 years, alongside a wife and stepson. Strikingly, the defense attorney highlighted this incident as Carreon's first arrest with no prior convictions on his record.

The Spring ISD was quick to react, assuring that after the employee responsible for the devices was terminated and arrested. "We have no tolerance here in Spring ISD for criminal acts, especially those that would violate the safety, privacy, and well-being of our staff and students," the district shared in a statement, as detailed by KHOU. An electronic detection dog was brought in from the Harris County Precinct 5 Constable's office, ensuring no additional devices were lurking about the campus.

Setting conditions for his release, officials have barred Carreon from going near any schools. He is due in court again on Friday, Jan. 6 at 9 a.m. for further proceedings on the case.
