A man wanted in connection with the fatal shooting of a young woman in a Houston apartment complex has been nabbed by police. Algie Mac Washington, 45, was arrested on January 24 for the murder of 23-year-old Jaynice Ferguson at 3401 Dunvale Street on January 17, as stated in a news release from the Houston Police Department.

According to the HPD, officers discovered Ferguson unresponsive from at least one gunshot wound and promptly rushed her to the nearby Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center, where she was ultimately pronounced dead. The victim’s ex-boyfriend is a person of interest. Their subsequent probe led them to formally pinpoint him as a suspect. The Harris County District Attorney's Office, upon being apprised of the case details, proceeded to file a murder charge against Washington.

HPD Homicide Division Detectives A. Finlay and L. Kauffman were at the helm of the investigation that brought Washington into custody. With a composite sketch derived from leads and relentless legwork, law enforcement executed their tactical prowess, cornering Washington in an apartment complex at the 2500 block of Winrock Street, as mentioned in the official release. Washington surrendered to the HPD Crime Reduction Unit and SWAT without resistance, thereafter being transported to the Harris County Jail.
