Men’s Wearhouse Opens New Store in Richmond, Houston, as Tailored Brands Expands Post-BankruptcySource: Google Street View

Houston just got a bit sharper with Men's Wearhouse stepping out with a brand-new store at 5562 W. Grand Parkway South in Richmond, ringing in their first storefront launch in the area since the rough days of 2021. Announced via the Houston Chronicle, this new spot marks the latest in a half-dozen fresh digs dotted across Texas, North Carolina, and Pennsylvania since October.

According to the Houston Chronicle, the Houston-based Tailored Brands, the big papa behind Men’s Wearhouse as well as Jos. A. Bank and K&G Fashion Superstore, is testing the waters with these six new joints. "We're going to see how they do and make future plans to accelerate after that. So these were our first six. It's a big deal to open up a new store, and we want to make sure that we get it right for our customer and the store teams that operate them."  said Karla Gray, Tailored Brands Chief Stores Officer. After shutting down around 500 stores back in 2020 due to a financial kerfuffle and bankruptcy buzz, the clothing chain is making strategic comebacks, though no more grand opening shindigs are on the calendar just yet, a company spokesperson chimed in.

Men's Wearhouse is looking to weave itself into the local fabric. "Richmond is a growing area in Houston and an area that we haven't been able to serve previously if you look at where our stores are located," Gray told the Houston Chronicle.

Venkatesh Shankar, a marketing professor at Southern Methodist University, mentioned to the Houston Chronicle that the retailer is jazzing up its racks with casual duds to meet the laid-back vibes after everyone got comfy working from home. Shankar adds that physical stores are key for customers to get the feel for the gear they'd rather not gamble on buying online. "Men's Wearhouse — selling formal apparel for milestone occasions such as school dances, job interviews and weddings — has the kind of product that customers need to try on to know whether it suits them," Shankar observed.

Announced in a Retail IT Insights press release, the Richmond shop spans a whopping 6000 square feet and will stock everything from tailored threads to casual wear — plus a rental section for those once-in-a-lifetime moments. The Men's Wearhouse crew aims to give customers the full VIP experience with personal stylists on deck. "We look forward to bringing our premier quality of service to the Richmond community after a successful series of location expansions," said John Tighe, President of Tailored Brands.

The Richmond grand opening, replete with local fanfare and veteran organization reps, caps off a charitable streak from the menswear bigwig following a hefty $6.5 million donation to U.S. Veteran nonprofits driven by customer generosity, Retail IT Insights reported.
