Houston Man in Critical Condition After Suspected Road Rage Shooting on Fort Bend ParkwaySource: Google Street View

A man is fighting for his life after being shot multiple times, including in the head, in what appears to be a road rage incident on the Fort Bend Parkway Toll Road, according to Houston police. The violence erupted Monday afternoon and led to a major traffic shutdown as authorities scoured the scene.

The victim said to be in his 20s, was southbound when a gunman in a black sedan unleashed a barrage of bullets around 2 p.m., a witness shooting a high-speed video told The Houston Chronicle. After being struck multiple times, the man's car hurtled 10 to 12 blocks further, only to crash into a barrier and grinded to a stop at Hillcroft and Glen Willow Lane.

First responders rushed to the scene after a passerby called 911, and the man was transported to the hospital in critical condition. As per a KHOU report, the man was taken to Memorial Hermann Hospital.

Traffic was a mess for hours while officials from the Houston Police Department and the Fort Bend County Sheriff's Office investigated, closing the southbound lanes during the busy rush hour. Diversions snaked along the Sam Houston Tollway as police hoped to track down the shooter with assistance from Houston TranStar cameras, with a focusing lens captured some of the incidents, according to police.

Normalcy returned to the toll road by 6:10 p.m. as lanes were reopened, but the search for the suspect continued. Anyone who might have witnessed the shooting or has information pertaining to a black four-door sedan has been urged by the authorities to come forward.
