McDonald's Shamrock Shake Sales Support Ronald McDonald House Charities Across Cities from New York to IndianaSource: Facebook/Ronald McDonald House Charities of WNY

McDonald's is stepping up its game this St. Patrick's season, offering more than just minty refreshment with its iconic Shamrock Shakes. With every sip of these green-hued milkshakes, McDonald's is donating 25 cents to support Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) in various regions, turning a simple indulgence into a sip of support for families facing medical crises.

From the bustling streets of New York to the Hoosier heartlands, participating McDonald's locations have pledged a portion of their shake sales to RMHC until March 18. In Michigan, the fast-food giant has even enlisted Oakland University men's basketball head coach Greg Kampe to work the drive-thru, boosting both sales and morale. According to WXYZ, the effort began in February and will continue through mid-March, mirroring the charitable promotion across the nation.

In the spirit of giving, Western New York is also getting a taste of the philanthropic action. In 2023, McDonald's customers in the area raised over $18,000 through the promotion. As WGRZ reported, the collected funds are directly enhancing the lives of families staying at RMHC, offering them essential resources and lodging while their children receive medical care in Buffalo.

But it's not just about shaking up sales, as Indiana has joined the cause with a sizable contribution of its own. Last year, Hoosiers contributed nearly $84,000 to RMHC through their purchases of the festive shakes. The RMHC of Michiana provides no-cost accommodation to affected families, ensuring they have one less worry while caring for their hospitalized children, noted Aaron Charles, the director of marketing for RMHC of Michiana, told WNDU.

These charitable efforts reflect a long-standing partnership between McDonald's and RMHC. In fact, Jennifer Litomisy, executive director of RMHC Detroit, expressed gratitude for McDonald's unwavering commitment as their house in Detroit celebrates 45 years of service. "50 years ago, the first Ronald McDonald House in the country opened its doors; thanks to the support of McDonald’s and the Shamrock Shake campaign," she said in a statement obtained by WXYZ. The initiative not only commemorates a tradition of giving but also encourages the community to contribute to a noble cause, simply by enjoying a seasonal treat.
