A shed fire in Battle Creek led to one person sustaining burns while trying to put out the blaze earlier this week. The Battle Creek Fire Department responded to an emergency call at 214 Graves Ave. on Tuesday morning after a detached shed was reported ablaze, as detailed in a FOX 17 article.

Upon arrival at 9:11 a.m., firefighters were met with the sight of the wooden structure fully engulfed in flames, equipment around it also starting to catch fire, and a house perilously close to the inferno, the quick response of rescue teams ensured that the fire was extinguished before it could spread to the nearby home. Unfortunately, during these tense moments, one of the home's occupants suffered burns whilst trying their hand at dousing the flames; they were treated on the scene by LifeCare Ambulance, the cause of the fire is currently undetermined and remains under investigation.

The City of Battle Creek lists the incident number as 24-02415 and notes the structure as a wood frame shed. The estimated damage to the property is pegged at $5,000, with an additional $2,500 worth of content damages reported.

There were no fatalities or hazardous materials involved, although the event resulted in property losses and bodily injury, the prompt action of the fire department's Car 3, Rescue 2, and Engine 4, who arrived just minutes after the report and skillfully handled the situation, meant that disaster was averted and destruction of the shed and spread to the neighboring houses was prevented, per the owner, Trampus Twomley, the shed was not occupied at the time of the mishap.
