Glendale's city council has gone ahead and named Elen Asatryan as the town's new mayor, replacing the outgoing Dan Brotman. The councilwoman, elected to the council in July of 2022, has swiftly made a mark as the youngest and the first Armenian-American woman to grab the reins of the city's top office, according to the City of Glendale.
Asatryan, a civil rights activist and entrepreneur, is no stranger to the political game, having already rolled up her sleeves at the local, state, and federal levels, with a career over two decades in the making. Beyond her consultant work with The Stark Group, she has made notable strides in voting rights and education in the region—her efforts in voter registration and introducing Armenian Genocide-related material in schools didn't go unnoticed, as reported by the City of Glendale.
City officials have openly expressed their enthusiasm to begin work alongside Mayor Asatryan. "I look forward to working with Mayor Asatryan on her priority initiatives during her term as Mayor," City Manager Roubik Golanian was quoted saying in a statement obtained by the city's communications office. Asatryan herself is fired up to take on the mayorship, declaring her dedication to inclusivity in city governance. "My commitment remains unchanged: to help foster a government where marginalized voices are heard as loud as any and barriers are torn down," she stated, expressing her vision for the city's diverse communities to thrive under her leadership.
