Santa Clarita Gears Up for 20th Annual Bike to Work Challenge to Promote Eco-Friendly CommutingSource: City of Santa Clarita

Get ready to pedal your way to work, Santa Clarita. The city is set to host its 20th annual Bike to Work Challenge, a week dedicated to encouraging locals to ditch their cars for bicycles. As announced by the City of Santa Clarita, the event invites the community to join the eco-friendly ride from May 13 to May 17, with a special pit stop party on May 16 to fuel the two-wheeled commuters.

Throughout the years, the Bike to Work Challenge has aimed to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by promoting a no-pollute commute among the city's businesses. This year, local enterprises can compete by having their employees bike to work. According to the city's website, "Businesses that are registered to participate and have the most participation in their size category will win a free lunch at a local restaurant of their choice!" To join the challenge and potentially snag some cool prizes, participants can register on GreenSantaClarita.com.

Not just about cutting emissions, the challenge turns into a community gathering, with pit stops set up from 7:00 to 9:00 a.m. on May 16 at various locations. These stations will give riders a chance to mingle, snag freebies, and grab refreshments courtesy of this year's partners. And for those with a lengthy commute, Santa Clarita Transit is offering a leg up with free rides to those carrying a bike or a helmet, making it easier for more residents to get involved.

Participation in the challenge requires a little bit of coordination. Businesses need to select a "lead rider" to be the point of contact, as stated by the city's post. These lead riders will be responsible for registering the company and submitting the list of participating employees by May 21, to the city event coordinator, Lindsay Schmandt, at [email protected].
