Melissa Fleming and Kristen Stevens Sworn Into Round Rock City CouncilSource: City of Round Rock

Round Rock City Council saw a shakeup last Thursday as old faces said their goodbyes and new blood took the oath of office. Melissa Fleming took over the reins for Place 3, succeeding Matt Baker, who stepped down after a commendable six-year stint, during a routine council gathering that drew a mix of local constituents, friends, and city personnel.

Flanked by supporters, the council chambers were abuzz as the outgoing Baker, known for his salty wit and extensive volunteer work was lauded by peers; Baker hung up his hat to carve out more time with the fam, leaving a legacy of regional planning initiatives and community service "What a dream it's been," he exclaimed, "God led us here, there's no doubt about it. It's been a dream come true for our family," Baker said, in a statement released by the City of Round Rock.

In an uncontested race, Kristen Stevens reclaimed her seat for Place 5, looking to build on the city's success from her initial term, "It was a great three years and I’m ready for another three years to see where this city goes and grows," Stevens told City of Round Rock.

Fleming, emerging victorious against Alan Sims with a commanding 65.7% of the vote in the May 4 general election, tipped her hat to the electorate and the community's narrative that energized her campaign "When I look at the prior leadership and the things they put in place that we’ve been able to benefit from, the Council, the City…it makes me want to be a part of it and the positive impact that they’re making on this community," she said, according to the same City of Round Rock report.
