A woman was hospitalized early Wednesday morning after bullets flew into a West Seattle bedroom, narrowly missing her child in a harrowing close call.

The Seattle Police Department reported the incident occurred around 2:40 a.m. in the 9400 block of 27th Avenue Southwest, officers rushed to the scene following a report of a shooting and found the injured woman, who had sustained gunshot wounds to her legs her child, who was also in the bed during the incident, was fortunately unharmed, according to SPD Blotter.

Upon their arrival, the officers provided immediate medical assistance until the Seattle Fire Department could take over and transport the victim to Harborview Medical Center, where she was said to be in stable condition.

The shooting took place when unknown assailants fired from a nearby courtyard, piercing the bedroom wall where the woman and her toddler were sleeping, the officers discovered several shell casings and recovered bullets at the scene, suggesting the level of danger the victims were exposed to, detectives from the Gun Violence Reduction Unit are taking the lead on this ongoing investigation.

No suspects have been identified as of yet, and the catalyst for the shooting remains unclear at this point. Seattle authorities are appealing to anyone with information about the incident to come forward as they work to piece together the events that led to this dangerous shooting.
