Authorities have made progress in the case surrounding the tragic September 2023 shooting on West Fuqua Street that resulted in the death of Airto Jonte Mills, 33; Dandre Trechaun Colbert, 32, has been arrested and stands accused of the murder, according to a cityofhouston.news update. Colbert, who now faces murder charges in the 268th District Court in Fort Bend County, was taken into custody on June 24 by the Gulf Coast Violent Offenders Task Force, after investigators implicated him as a shooter.
Officers responding to the incident last year found Mills deceased at the scene having been shot multiple times, the violent encounter reportedly stemming from a traffic accident involving his gray Mercedes E350 and a white, 2023 Volkswagen Tiguan, yet the situation rapidly escalated into chaos as the perpetrators fled on foot leaving behind more questions than answers, and even now the search for the possibly multiple suspects continues. Notwithstanding the arrest of Colbert, the Houston Police Department's Homicide Division believes that there may be at least two more culprits at large, an undisclosed male and a female, their identities and roles in the crime still shrouded in mystery.
