An incident in Anaheim this past weekend has ended tragically with the death of a 26-year-old man following his arrest. According to the City of Anaheim, the man was apprehended on June 22 after authorities received reports of him acting erratically and nude in public.

Anaheim Police were called to the scene at around 2:12 p.m. on the 800 block of N. Harbor Blvd. The man, whose identity has not yet been made public, appeared to be under the influence of drugs, as per the City of Anaheim. Officers were able to detain the man "without incident" and proceeded to arrest him for public nudity and being under the influence. During transport to be medically cleared at the hospital, officers noticed he was in serious distress, prompting them to immediately render aid and to administer Narcan, an emergency treatment when a narcotic overdose is suspected.

The man was subsequently taken to a local hospital by ambulance, where he passed away some 16 hours later. The circumstances leading to his death are now under scrutiny. The Orange County District Attorney's Office is investigating the event, aided by Anaheim PD Homicide Detectives. In addition, the Anaheim PD's Major Incident Review Team (MIRT) and Internal Affairs are conducting their own concurrent administrative inquiries into the matter.
