A rescue operation was carried out by Austin-Travis County EMS (ATCEMS) after a teenager sustained injuries from a fall at Pennybacker Bridge Overlook late Sunday evening. According to KXAN, emergency services commenced a high-angle rescue following a report that an individual had fallen down a cliff from the overlook area shortly after 9 p.m.
Responders from the Austin Fire Department reached the scene by 9:20 p.m., and established verbal contact with the teen, standing and conversing with the rescue team. Previously reported by ATCEMS and later corrected, the teenager slid down the cliff face a distance initially thought to be 50 feet, KVUE reports they later clarified the actual distance was about 20 feet.
The call for rescue first came in at approximately 9:12 p.m., and by 9:36 p.m., the teenager had been rescued and was on the way to a local hospital. The seriousness of the injuries sustained by the teen led to transport to St. David's South for evaluation and treatment of potentially serious injuries. ATCEMS updated the public regarding the incident and the teen's condition shortly before 10 p.m.
