With temperatures in Carroll County expected to soar, officials are taking steps to safeguard residents against the anticipated heat wave. From Friday, June 21, through Sunday, June 23, cooling centers will be open to provide a reprieve from the oppressive conditions. Announced on Thursday by the Carroll County Department of Citizen Services alongside the Carroll County Public Library System, these centers are geared especially toward those at heightened risk due to lack of proper shelter.

According to the county's official announcement, several locations throughout the county will welcome residents in need of a cool space. On Friday, June 21st, from 8:00AM to 3:00 PM, individuals can head to various designated senior and community centers, including facilities in Westminster, Mount Airy, Hampstead, Eldersburg, and Taneytown.

Local libraries are also joining the efforts, doubling as cooling centers during their regular business hours. Residents can visit the Eldersburg, Finksburg, Mt. Airy, North Carroll, Taneytown, and Westminster branches on Friday and Saturday from 9:00 am – 5:00 pm. Furthermore, the Human Services Programs Adult Only Homeless Shelter at 127 Stoner Avenue will remain open round the clock to offer shelter from the heat.

The emergency management officials have advised the community on ways to cope with the extreme heat. Recommendations include slowing down physical activities, dressing in loose and light-colored garments, and staying hydrated by drinking plenty of waters.
