Corpus Christi Police Probe Discovery of Remains Near Missing Student's Home, DNA Analysis UnderwaySource: GoFundMe/Emily Wich

The Corpus Christi community is seeking answers in the wake of human remains found in a wastewater well near the apartment of missing Texas A&M Corpus Christi student Caleb Harris. According to People, the remains, discovered on June 24, showed "no obvious signs of homicide." The discovery was made by a city employee near the 21-year-old's off-campus apartment, triggering thoughts about the young man who vanished without trace nearly four months ago.

Upon retrieval, the remains were described as being in an advanced state of decomposition, complicating the efforts of the Nueces County Medical Examiner’s Office to establish an identity or determine the cause of death. Acknowledging the difficulty of assessing such a deteriorated condition, the remains are being sent to the University of North Texas Center for Human Identification for DNA analysis, as stated by the Corpus Christi Police Department in a statement obtained by FOX San Antonio.

Caleb Harris' father has previously expressed to FOX News the mysterious circumstances under which his son disappeared, leaving behind his keys, wallet, and car—"There's no evidence of wrongdoing, but there's no evidence at all," he said. In an effort to support the family, a GoFundMe campaign has raised more than $70,000 since Caleb's disappearance was first noted.

Authorities are working to understand how the remains found their way into the lift station collection well of the wastewater. With city officials remaining tight-lipped due to the active investigation, as they related in their conversation with PEOPLE.
