In the early hours of June 2, 2024, a tragic event unfolded on SB I-5 near the West Seattle Bridge when an individual was fatally struck by a passing motorhome—after an initial collision left a green 1996 Toyota Corolla obstructing a lane of the freeway. According to the Washington State Patrol, the Corolla struck a barrier and came to a stop on the highway, upon which the occupants exited the vehicle and moved to a presumed safe spot.

The series of events turned deadly as one of the Toyota's passengers, while standing near the vehicle, was hit by the side mirror of a passing motorhome, which couldn't switch lanes in time, and then got pulled out of the immediate path of oncoming traffic. A driver from AMR in a Ford F-150 intervened by positioning the vehicle to shield the scene and provide emergency assistance, but matters got significantly worse when an impaired driver crashed into the AMR truck, which then collided with the Toyota and ultimately caused the previously injured pedestrian to be trapped underneath and subsequently also leading to their death. The Seattle Fire Department was called to the scene and pronounced the individual deceased. The driver responsible for the secondary collision was arrested under suspicion of DUI.

While the investigation continues, detectives have hit a stumbling block with the missing driver of the original crashed Toyota, known only as "Tae." The survivors of the initial crash could offer no further identifiers about the individual who had fled—leaving law enforcement to appeal to the public for any pertinent information that could assist in the ongoing case.

Anyone with potentially valuable information regarding the driver who left the scene has been urged to contact the Washington State Patrol, who are resolute in piecing together the circumstances of this fatal sequence of events.
