A Fullerton man faces a maximum of 10 years in state prison following charges stemming from a fatal traffic collision. Francisco Garcia-Vargas, 44, was charged with one felony count of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, driving under the influence of alcohol causing injury, and driving with a blood alcohol content of .08% or higher, according to a press release from the Orange County District Attorney's Office.

The incident, which resulted in the death of a motorcyclist, occurred on June 12, around 9:45 p.m. at the intersection of Orangethorpe Avenue and Gilbert Street in Fullerton. Garcia-Vargas, reportedly driving a BMW, collided with the victim's motorcycle at a speed exceeding 100 miles per hour, stated the DA's Office. The victim, 28-year-old Alexander Marce, was stopped at a red light when hit. Witnesses claim to have seen Garcia-Vargas continue to drive for a few hundred yards with the motorcycle lodged underneath his vehicle.

After the accident, bystanders removed Garcia-Vargas from his car and restrained him until the arrival of the police. Marce was pronounced dead at the scene. In the wake of the tragedy, a GoFundMe campaign has been established to support Marce’s family and friends, as reported by FOX LA.

The Deputy District Attorney Devin Campbell of the Homicide Unit, is leading the prosecution. Garcia-Vargas, with a blood alcohol content nearly three times the legal limit, at the time of the incident, is slated for arraignment.
