A deadly encounter unfolded at Alief-Amity Park's basketball court Saturday evening in Houston, where a fight over a gambling debt left one man dead and another injured. ABC13 reports that the Houston Police Department (HPD) believes the conflict involved at least three men. Houston Police Commander Trey Coleman shared that the discussion turned deadly was allegedly over money owed from gambling that very evening.

According to officers, the incident at the park located near South Dairy Ashford Road was initially reported at around 7:16 p.m. by a police officer who was providing security for a nearby party. An object hit one of the men in the head, leading to him being hospitalized but expected to recover. Another man succumbed to gunshot wounds, with HPD still on the hunt for the third participant, who is believed to have fled the scene, and possibly more individuals involved in the altercation.

While the investigation continues, HPD has not confirmed the number of people present during the violent exchange. Eyewitnesses, frequent visitors to the park for dominoes and card games, said the men involved were regulars. Police urge anyone with information to come forward to help in the investigation and seek justice for the man who lost his life.
