Lakeville Highway Reopens Near Petaluma After Early Morning Diesel Spill CleanupSource: CHP - Santa Rosa

The Lakeville Highway was shut down due to a semi-truck crash and reopened after a spill of over 50 gallons of diesel was cleared up. The trouble began in the early hours of Friday when a semi-truck collided with an unidentified object, leading to a spill that saw diesel fuel streaking a swath of roadway at least a quarter-mile long, reported The Press Democrat.

The incident, which unfolded around 4:55 a.m. near Old Lakeville Road 3, southwest of Petaluma, caused no injuries, not even to the driver, who hit an unknown object and came out unscathed. Officer David deRutte of the California Highway Patrol characterized the situation as a "large spill," prompting a significant response from authorities and hazmat teams. Southbound traffic was temporarily rerouted to Stage Gulch Road, while northbound drivers were sent along CA-37 west, deRutte told The Press Democrat.

The road closure meant a morning of detoured plans and delays, but by 11:15 a.m., the situation was resolved, and the highway was fully operational. In the meantime, social media updates from the CHP - Santa Rosa provided timely alerts to local drivers. By 10:23 a.m., a Facebook update confirmed the road had already been cleared and was open to traffic.

"AS OF 10:23 am, LAKEVILLE HIGHWAY HAS REOPENED", announced the CHP - Santa Rosa's Facebook page, with the previous estimate pointing out a couple more hours before the cleanup would be final.
