The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department has disclosed the identities of two officers involved in a shooting that left a knife-wielding man dead near Boulder Highway earlier this week. According to a report by News 3 LV, Sergeant Ashley Ravelo and Officer Johnny Patino were the officers who responded to the June 26 incident.

The confrontation occurred when the man, reportedly armed with two knives, attempted to gain entry into a business along Boulder Highway near Russell Road. Described in a FOX5 Vegas account, the individual was threatening customers, and despite multiple verbal commands to drop his weapons, he charged the officers, prompting them to shoot.

Both Ravelo and Patino are stationed in the Community Policing Division, Southeast Area Command. Sergeant Ravelo, 32, has been part of the LVMPD since 2014, while Officer Patino, also 32, joined the force in 2021. Following standard procedure, they have been placed on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation into the shooting, their names were revealed Friday following the incident.

In the wake of the shooting, the LVMPD has confirmed this to be the seventh officer-involved shooting for the year. The suspect, whose condition was initially undisclosed, was provided life-saving measures before being transported to a nearby hospital. As of now, no updates on his condition have been reported. In the aftermath of the event, roads around Boulder Highway and Russell were closed but have since been reopened as of 10 a.m. that day.
