Long Beach Police Department homicide detectives have made an arrest in the June 19 murder of 38-year-old Josue Manuel Matos. The suspect, identified as 25-year-old Aaron Garcia of Long Beach, was apprehended during an eviction being carried out by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department in the 400 block of Cerritos Avenue on June 25, as reported by the LBPD.

Garcia, found by officers inside the residence, was arrested and taken into custody, being booked into Long Beach City Jail on charges of murder and a probation violation. Currently, he is being held without bail. According to the Long Beach Police Department, it is not yet known if the victim and suspect knew each other, the detectives however, believe that they were engaged in conversation before the shooting.

The tragic incident unfolded on the evening of June 19, when officers responded to reports of a man down on the ground in the 2600 block of E Anaheim Street. Upon arrival, they found Matos with multiple gunshot wounds. Despite attempts at life-saving measures by both the responding officers and Long Beach Fire Department personnel, Matos later died at a local hospital, as per the LBPD.
