Last night in Long Beach, the sounds of gunfire broke the relative quiet of the 6600 Block of Downey Avenue. According to the Long Beach Police Department, at around 12:24 a.m. on June 29, officers were called to the scene following reports of shots fired. Although no victims were discovered, the authorities confirmed that a shooting had indeed taken place and that an adult male suspect had unleashed a series of shots from a vehicle before evading the arriving officers.

In a separate incident that unfolded earlier, Long Beach officers demonstrated their vigilance during a routine traffic stop. Conducting the stop near Pacific Avenue and Willow Street at about 2:31 p.m. on June 28, officers discovered and confiscated a firearm, as per the LBPD. Arresting the suspect, they continued to peel back the layers of what led to the weapon being present in the vehicle in the first place.

The LBPD has yet to disclose any motives or connections between these events, if there are any, but has reassured the public that the investigation is actively pursued.
