Long Beach Police Release Critical Incident Video of Officer-Involved Shooting, Suspect Charged with Attempted MurderSource: Long Beach Police Department

The Long Beach Police Department has provided the latest update on the officer-involved shooting from this April, releasing a Critical Incident Video to the public. The video, containing potentially distressing content, is a part of the Department's commitment to transparency under laws such as Senate Bill 1421 and Assembly Bill 748. These pieces of legislation mandate the disclosure of records and evidence on serious incidents involving police officers, as reported by the LBPD.

The shooting took place late on April 26, when a Long Beach police officer came upon a man firing his gun at another individual in a business parking lot located at the 5800 block of Orange Avenue, as per the LBPD. Upon his observation, the officer engaged in a foot pursuit after the armed suspect, Demetrius Imoesiri, who, during the attempt to flee, was shot by the officer. Imoesiri was hit in the lower body before the officer administered medical aid followed by treatment from paramedics leading to his current stable condition in hospital.

While the original victim of the suspect escaped the scene and has yet to be located, Imoesiri, identified as a 43-year-old Long Beach resident, faces multiple charges which include attempted murder and possession of a firearm by a felon. Imoesiri's bail has been set at $1,000,000, according to the LBPD. In the meantime, no officers were reported injured during the incident. Aside from the suspect, no other injuries have been reported.
