Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass has made significant headway in addressing homelessness with the "Inside Safe" program, a city initiative designed to transition homeless individuals into more secure living arrangements. This week, the initiative saw more participants move into permanent and supportive housing, with the total number of permanently housed individuals now climbing into the hundreds. According to the Mayor's office, emphasizing the urgency of housing Angelenos across the city and the lifesaving impact of the program.

"All Angelenos, no matter their age, income, identity or ability deserve to have the opportunity to live in a safe and stable place they can call home," Mayor Bass stated, as per the Office of the Mayor. She focuses on the role of permanent and supportive housing in actualizing a vision where unhoused residents, during a critical time in their lives, receive quality and affordable accommodations. Bass expressed pride in partnering with the Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority (LAHSA) and PATH (People Assisting The Homeless) to support independent living and access to necessary services.

In an effort to reduce unsheltered homelessness, the program's strategy involves not only providing interim housing but also ensuring that these individuals find permanent homes efficiently. Dr. Va Lecia Adams Kellum, the CEO of LAHSA, articulated gratitude for Mayor Bass's continued partnership and anticipation for more success stories from the Inside Safe initiative, as detailed by the Mayor's Office. LAHSA's goal of swiftly moving people off the streets into interim housing, and then finding them a permanent home, was reiterated as a cornerstone of their mission.
