Macomb County Sheriff's Marine Division Swiftly Rescues Four Boaters on Lake St. ClairSource: Macomb County Sheriff's Office

Four boaters in Macomb County found themselves in precarious waters on Lake St. Clair but were promptly rescued by the Macomb County Sheriff's Marine Division. According to a video released, the incident occurred on Sunday afternoon around 3 p.m., roughly a mile east of the Clinton River's mouth.

The CBS News report described the boat as overturned amidst choppy conditions on the lake. The quick response of the deputies was critical as two patrol boats reached the scene to find the four individuals wearing life jackets and clinging to the vessel. Wearing these life preservers probably played a vital role in ensuring their safety until help arrived.

Upon arrival, deputies from the Macomb County Sheriff's Office were faced with the challenge of navigating the rough waters to perform the rescue. ClickOnDetroit showed video footage of the rescue.

These boaters had intended to spend their day fishing before the lake’s conditions worsened. According to statements given to deputies and reported by Macomb Daily, water began to breach the vessel's gunwale, filling the compartments and ultimately causing the boat to capsize. Following the rescue, Sheriff Anthony Wickersham expressed gratitude towards the boaters for wearing life jackets and commended the Marine Division, saying, "This group of boaters made the best decision possible when they chose to wear life jackets on their outing. I sincerely appreciate the efforts of our Marine Division rescuing these individuals and ensuring they made it safely back to shore."

Boaters are encouraged to carry out a virtual safety check to ascertain that their vessels are ready to face the water’s unpredictable conditions.
