Emphasizing the gains, Courtney Phillips, secretary/treasurer of UFCW Local 951, told CBS News, "We fought hard for significant wage increases and an overall improved contract for the Kroger members. I am proud of the members who served on the bargaining committee and worked together to achieve contract gains that improve the lives of their fellow members."

The contract includes more than just wage enhancements. Among the updates, workers with 18 years of service, hired after December 31, 2008, will receive more paid time off. On the financial front, Kroger is committing more than $8 million in associate healthcare and upwards of $500,000 for retirement benefits throughout the contract's duration. Moreover, the deal guarantees that there will be no upsurge in the weekly cost of health and welfare benefits and outlines measures for enhanced safety protocols in stores. This comprehensive approach seeks to address immediate financial concerns, long-term well-being, and job security.

Acknowledging the broader impact of the agreement, Richelle Anderson, an employee at the Kroger store in Okemos and a member of the bargaining committee, highlighted the substantial benefit of stabilized healthcare costs. In a statement obtained by Lansing State Journal, Anderson said, "I think overall it will have a really good impact on workers and their families, especially with the health insurance package and keeping those costs down for the employees. That is huge for us!"

The Kroger Michigan Division President Ken DeLuca, in a statement obtained by The Detroit News, expressed Kroger's pledge to its workforce, stating, "Our commitment to our team extends beyond offering excellent wages and benefits, including health care and pensions, enhancing the career paths for our dedicated team members."
