In the early hours of Friday morning, a woman's 911 text became a lifeline when she reported being assaulted by an armed man while traveling on Interstate 75. The incident, which played out in Oakland County, led to the swift arrest of a Michigan man, authorities shared. According to CBS Detroit, the woman's text to 911 dispatchers around 4:20 a.m. detailed an ongoing domestic assault in a maroon Chevrolet Malibu and included information that the assailant had a gun.

Michigan State Police acted promptly upon receiving the alarming information, orchestrating a traffic stop on the northbound lanes near mile marker 93. During the stop near Lahring Road, dispatchers maintained an open line, capturing conversations within the vehicle that included the driver's refusal to exit, "I ain't getting out," as heard by dispatchers, The Detroit News reports.

The 42-year-old driver, whose prior convictions include involuntary manslaughter and armed robbery, was asked to provide his identification to the troopers before the woman was requested to exit the vehicle. Once she was safely out of harm's way, she revealed that the man had stashed a gun under his seat. Subsequently, the driver and two additional passengers were directed to exit the Malibu. Following compliance with the orders,, the man was arrested on domestic assault charges, WWJ Newsradio conveyed.

A subsequent search of the vehicle led to the discovery and seizure of a Walther 9mm pistol from the driver's side of the car. The woman, though treated at the scene by first responders, refused further medical care at the hospital. The suspect's identity has not yet been disclosed as the case awaits a prosecutorial review and an upcoming arraignment. In a coordinated response, Michigan State Police spokesman First Lt. Mike Shaw praised the efforts, stating, "Great team work between the MSP and Oakland County dispatchers to bring this to a peaceful end," as per WWJ Newsradio. For those in need of support in domestic violence situations, Lt. Shaw reminds the public that 24-hour assistance is available by contacting 866-864-2338 (866-VOICE-DV).
