On early Wednesday morning in Moreno Valley, a family disturbance led to a fatal incident involving 46-year-old Joseph Gloria and local law enforcement. The Riverside Sheriff's Department reports that deputies responded to a call at a residence on Country Gate Road after Gloria's mother expressed fear for her safety, stating that her son, under the influence of methamphetamine, had threatened the family with a wooden rod.

Attempts to negotiate by the deputies were met with resistance, as Gloria, still armed, was uncooperative and refused to de-escalate. The situation intensified when Gloria aggressively advanced toward the deputies, leading them to use a taser to restrain him. Although handcuffed, Gloria soon after became unresponsive. Despite immediate medical aid from deputies and paramedics, he was subsequently pronounced dead. The autopsy to determine the cause of death is pending.

Riverside County District Attorney’s Office has taken the lead in the subsequent force investigation. As typical in such cases, the names of the deputies involved in Gloria's death have not been released.
