With his extensive background in leadership across several offices of the Texas A&M University System and an impressive governmental relations track record, Garza brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the helm of the fledgling agency. "Norman Garza will help lead that mission as the Commission's first Executive Director," said Governor Abbott, as per the Office of the Texas Governor.
The Texas Space Commission was established last year to ensure Texas continues to play a pivotal role in the space industry, now, and in future generations. Garza has been entrusted with the inaugural leadership of the commission, praised for his contributions to major initiatives at Texas A&M. These include establishing partnerships with the U.S. Army Futures Command and engaging in several state legislative efforts, crucial for the commission's success. "I am honored and humbled to be selected by the Texas Space Commission Board of Directors," Garza expressed, as detailed by the Office of the Texas Governor. His peers have received his appointment well, including Chair of the Texas Space Commission Board of Directors Gwen Griffin, who acknowledged his expertise will greatly benefit the commission's strategic plans and staffing.
