A man was shot and killed by a police officer in Downey on Saturday night, officials reported. The Downey Police Department received calls concerning a disturbance at a residence near the 7100 block of Stewart and Gray Road around 6:15 p.m., as reported by NBC Los Angeles.

According to ABC7, the incident escalated from an argument between the man, identified by witnesses as having mental health issues, and a neighbor over the former's lighting of fireworks in his backyard.
