Road Rage Incident Ignites Gunfire on Houston’s SH-288, Injuries Reported and HPD InvestigatingSource: X/Houston Police

Chaos ensued on the highways of Houston Thursday afternoon as a suspected road rage incident escalated to gunfire. KTRK reports that Houston Police Department officers swarmed to SH-288 near Holly Hall Street after receiving a 911 call just after 1 p.m. about shots fired. Upon arrival, they discovered two vehicles that had been struck by bullets—a dark-colored sedan and a Ford SUV carrying two individuals.

During the commotion, traffic was disrupted, with two right lanes near the site of the incident being temporarily closed. These lanes were later reopened, easing traffic flow according to KTRK’s coverage. Lt. Larry Crowson of HPD shared that the chain of events seemed to be triggered when the sedan reportedly fired multiple rounds into the SUV. The altercation appears rooted in a road rage dispute, with the driver of the SUV claiming the sedan had cut her off.

An innocent bystander, a woman in the Ford, suffered minor injuries from shattered glass and was treated at the scene, as stated in a post by Houston Police. Further details came to light as police reported that a white pickup truck—an off-duty officer’s vehicle—was also hit. Thankfully, while the officer's truck was damaged, he was not injured.

HPD officials are actively investigating the shooting and have been speaking with witnesses to piece together the events that unfolded on the highway. "Right now, it looks like it was some kind of road rage," Crowson told KTRK. The identity of the shooter, who was driving a dark sedan, remains unknown as the investigation continues and details emerge.
