Roommate Arrested for Alleged Stabbing in Almena Township as Victim HospitalizedSource: Van Buren County Sheriff's Office

A stabbing incident in Almena Township led to the hospitalization of one man and the arrest of another last Friday night, as reported by local authorities. The conflict, involving two roommates, was allegedly driven by disagreements over food and employment, and was exacerbated by alcohol consumption.

Responding to a distress call around 9:10 p.m., deputies from the Van Buren County Sheriff’s Office arrived at a residence on M-43 near 29th Street to find two men involved in a physical altercation, WZZM13 reported. Following the scuffle, a 21-year-old victim, found to have sustained a stab wound to the chest, received immediate medical attention from the Michigan State Police who worked to stabilize his condition before he was transported to a nearby hospital.

Authorities took a 22-year-old Guatemalan national into custody in connection with the assault. He's currently being held at the Van Buren County Jail on an assault with intent to commit murder charge, a detail confirmed by FOX17.

The investigation showed that the roommates, who had reportedly been drinking, entered into a confrontation over commonplace issues. The strain of everyday life was made manifest in the form of a heated debate over sustenance, its sources, and the means of securing it. "There was a fight between two roommates and one of them stabbed the other," as divulged by the Van Buren County Sheriff’s Office. The victim, whose name was not disclosed, remains in serious but stable condition, according to the WZZM13 report.
