San Antonio City Council Approves New Spay/Neuter Clinics in Denver Heights and Las Palmas to Address Stray Animal ConcernsSource: City of San Antonio

In a decisive move addressing animal welfare and community issues, the City Council of San Antonio has recently voted to approve two new five-year Lease Agreements for spay/neuter clinic spaces, one located in Denver Heights and the other in the Las Palmas area. The clinics aim to provide much-needed spay and neuter services to neighborhoods grappling with the challenges of stray and roaming animals.

As reported by the City's official news release, the Denver Heights clinic will find its home at 1604 S. New Braunfels Avenue. This initiative is part of a long-term effort by local authorities to bring directly accessible veterinary services to the area. Councilmember McKee-Rodriguez has been a vocal advocate for this project, “From the beginning of my tenure as councilmember, addressing animal welfare concerns and supporting our Animal Care Services department remains one of my most pressing priorities. Today is the first major concrete step in a years-long push to open and operate a spay/neuter clinic right to the heart of the Eastside for more accessible services for our neighborhoods that especially face stray and roaming animal issues," McKee-Rodriguez said.

San Antonio Animal Care Services (SAACS) will oversee the operations of the new facilities, which are anticipated to significantly impact the health and well-being of animals in these communities. Acknowledging the department's role, Councilmember McKee-Rodriguez expressed gratitude: “We want to thank the Animal Care Services department for their steadfast work and dedication to this project. We are extremely hopeful the new spay/neuter clinic will help make a difference in the health and happiness of our animals and those who care for them.”

Details on SAACS’ spay/neuter services can be found on the City’s website.
