Two Injured in Garfield Township Crash, Alcohol Suspected as Factor in Accident Involving Electrical Pole FireSource: Michigan State Police

In the early hours of June 22, a vehicle accident in Garfield Township, Michigan, left two individuals grievously injured when their car struck an electrical pole. As reported by ClickOnDetroit, the crash transpired around 12:15 a.m. on Cass Road, where a car was found on its side with its engine compartment ablaze.

Authorities responding to the scene encountered a hazardous situation, with a toppled pole and live wires dangling precariously about six feet off the ground. The 28-year-old driver, hailing from Northport, was responsive, while rescuers found her passenger, a 35-year-old Traverse City man, unresponsive, preventing immediate extraction from the vehicle because of the electrical hazard. "Troopers were unable to reach the occupants of the vehicle," the Michigan State Police noted, as per UpNorthLive.

The driver received first aid instructions from troopers until the pair could be safely removed by the Traverse City Fire Department. According to FOX 2 Detroit, both individuals were then taken to a local hospital, with the passenger suffering from life-threatening injuries and the driver's injuries being non-life-threatening.

Michigan State Police suspect alcohol to have played a role in the accident. While the incident is under current investigation, police believe that the crash, which resulted in an electrical pole snapped in half, hanging electrical wires, and a vehicle fire, was influenced by the consumption of alcohol by the driver. "Alcohol is believed to be a factor in the crash and this incident remains under investigation," said the state police, as per UpNorthLive.
