A tragic incident unfolded on a Tacoma freeway when a motorcyclist collided with two vehicles, leading to his death and injuries for two others. The crash occurred on Saturday evening on Interstate 5 near S 84th Street in the Lakewood area. The motorcyclist, later identified as 25-year-old Luis A. Reyes Garcia from Auburn, was reportedly traveling at high speeds not suited for the road conditions before the fatal accident took place.

According to KOMO News, the Washington State Patrol stated that the crash happened when Garcia attempted to change lanes and struck a car, which then led him into another lane where he hit a second vehicle. The aftermath blocked the northbound lanes of I-5 for a substantial period, causing significant traffic delays. In a statement obtained by The News Tribune, the motorcycle, and the second vehicle that was hit both came to a rest on the left shoulder of the freeway, while the third vehicle involved came to a halt on the right shoulder some distance away from the point of collision.

The repercussions of the collision were felt not only by those directly involved but also by the broader public as traffic stalled for hours following the accident. First responders, including WSP, West Pierce Fire, and the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) Tacoma, attended to the scene to manage the traffic and investigate the circumstances of the crash. Details regarding the involvement of drugs or alcohol have yet to be determined by authorities.

One of the other vehicles involved, a Mercedes SUV, suffered a total loss and carried three children, ages five, seven, and four,, according to MYNorthwest. The children emerged unharmed, but the 34-year-old driver from Edmonds and her 43-year-old passenger from Sagle sustained injuries and were treated at the scene. The occupants of the other vehicle, a Jeep, were not injured and the car sustained minimal damage.
