Updating Your Hayes Valley Hot Day Survival GuidePhoto: ejbSF/Flickr
It's hot. Really hot. And while most of us would rather have a pounding rainstorm on our hands instead, we've no choice but to hunker down to endure—and maybe even enjoy—the relentlessly warm weather that's set to last through the rest of the week.
A year and a half ago, we gave you a rundown on the best ways to spend a sweltering day out and about in the neighborhood, and today's weather serves as a reminder that we're due for an update on your options.

In terms of capacious outdoor seating, your two options have withered to one with the closure of Hayes & Kebab and its airy parking lot patio. That leaves Biergarten as the clear choice for groups hoping to enjoy the open air, and the spot opens at 3pm today, so cut out from work early and hurry over to nab a spot. If you can't find a seat, you might pause to ponder your next move on a bench in Patricia's Green and consider the controversial new art installation while you're at it.

If you're looking for a more shaded respite from the heat, the back patio at Arlequin is still a good bet, at least until upcoming spot BIRBA opens and its planned "wine garden" can move forward. Momi Toby's, La BoulangeThe Grove, and Two Sisters' lone outdoor table all provide streetside spots for watching the world go by, and new neighborhood darling Souvla has a small outdoor counter that allows you to face outwards while you eat.

Speaking of Souvla, Hayes Valley's ice cream and frozen yogurt landscape has changed somewhat since we last checked in. In addition to the continued offerings of Proxy mainstay Smitten (which incidentally, has just debuted maple brown sugar squash, its October flavor) and the chilled bread pudding at Schulzies, Souvla has a trio of Greek frozen yogurts on offer, including sour cherry, olive oil and sea salt, and baklava crumble flavors. Spring arrival Loving Cup has the advantage of a shady tree to guard its entrance, and it also has plenty of froyo on hand, with customizable options that are blended to order.

If the hot weather has you feeling a bit wilted, you can always caffeinate with an iced coffee at Blue Bottle or Ritual, and, of course, the neighborhood boasts a bevy of bars to cure what ails you (just remember to drink some water too).

Did we miss your favorite spot to cool off in the neighborhood? If so, let us know ... and don't forget the sunscreen.
