April shepherds in the return of baseball, warmer weather (here's hoping), and regular outdoor events. With temps climbing into the mid-70s by week's end, the timing for alfresco activities couldn't be better, especially if you've been holed up inside over a pile of tax receipts.
Saturday marks the return of live outdoor music in Park Chalet's backyard beer garden. Dos Four, whose influences range from Cuban timba to Jay-Z, take the stage at 3pm on Saturday. On Sunday, The Deadlies, who dub themselves "NorCal's most dangerous surf band," perform, combining California surf rock, punk, swing, and roadhouse honky-tonk.
Last Friday saw the newest addition to the San Francisco Zoo, a yet-to-be-named female baby giraffe. The calf's birth comes just in time for the zoo's "Baby Bunch Weekend," where visitors are invited to meet the zoo's littlest creatures "in their cutest phase." Although the baby giraffe is still bonding with mom and only visible for short periods, new monkeys, penguins, a lion, and a wallaroo should all be in view.
Last Sunday's Playland at 43rd Avenue community gardening day got washed out, but if this weekend's forecast holds up, Saturday should be a banner day for neighborly gardening. If you need some extra enticement, lunch will be provided, as will coffee from Outer Sunset roaster Andytown. Don't forget your hat, sunscreen, and raggedy clothes.
Now more on that, and the rest of your weekend events. For hundreds more events around the city, be sure to check out hoodline.com/events.
