If you haven't gotten around to booking a long weekend getaway, not to worry. The Tenderloin won't let you down.
Tomorrow, Cutting Ball Theater, the neighborhood's long-standing experimental theater company, is launching its latest production, Dream Play. The show focuses on a young woman on her deathbed who embarks on a journey to fully experience human suffering—through a dream.
Ticket prices for Friday night's opening gala range from $15 (for students) up to $50. But remember: Anyone who lives or works in the neighborhood is welcome to show up any night and ask about "pay-what-you-can" tickets for empty seats.
Come Friday evening, homegrown participatory performance group Skywatchers is hosting its fifth annual festival at the Tenderloin Museum. The event will explore the meaning of "home" in a neighborhood where housing is a constant challenge—for those with and without a place to call their own.
Memorial Day weekend marks the start of party season at the Phoenix Hotel. Soak up some "Summertime Vibes" at a poolside BBQ Sunday afternoon, featuring a host of DJs.
But first, don't forget to catch the second half of the Tenderloin history walking tour with neighborhood historian Peter Fields. The free tour (donations accepted) kicks off at 9am Sunday at McAllister & Leavenworth.
