Hop in the Wayback Machine and let's travel back to 2012, when we ran a profile on Jimmy Flowers, the Haight's very own flower shrine custodian. To refresh your memory, Mr. Flowers creates shrines to various people—Janis Joplin, The Rolling Stones, Amy Winehouse, and Neil Young, to name a few—in the ground around the street trees lining the Haight retail corridor, using flats of flowers and photos and articles wrapped in cellophane.

Flowers' latest addition to our streetscape went up last Saturday afternoon. The new shrine is dedicated to the late musician Prince, and is located on the northeast corner of Haight & Clayton, by the bus stop. In addition to about four flats of flowers, it's got tons of photos and articles, and it's worth taking a peek during your next stroll.

Over the past 30 years, Flowers says he's made about 80 shrines, all of which have either died or gotten trashed. When he gets $200 or so together, he builds another one. He told us that he's got plans to build more shrines along Haight east of Clayton in the coming weeks, so look out for those. Will David Bowie be next? One can hope.

His shrine isn't the only tribute to Prince to pop up in the area: there's also a "Purple Rain" bench dedicated to the artist outside of Green Apple Books on the Park on 9th Avenue.

Want to pay tribute to Prince in your own way? Here's our listing of tribute parties and dance nights, which we're continually updating as new events come in.

Correction: An earlier version of this article incorrectly reported Jimmy's name to be "Timmy."
