Child's Toy Ignites Blaze in Benicia, Smoke Detector Saved LivesSource: Benicia Fire Department

Earlier today, a seemingly innocent object – a child's ride-on toy battery – caused a residential fire that was fortunately contained due to the presence of a functioning smoke detector.

According to Benicia Fire Department's Facebook post, the fire erupted at 2:39 a.m. in the 800 block of Corcoran Court. The Benicia Fire Department swiftly responded, managing to isolate the fire to the garage area. Due to the early warning provided by the home's smoke detector, the family was alerted in time to safely evacuate the house, with no reported injuries.

A preliminary investigation conducted by the Benicia Fire Department revealed that an electrical issue while charging the battery for a child's ride-on toy was the primary cause of the devastating fire.

The Benicia Fire Department has commended the family's quick response and emphasized the life-saving role of fire safety measures, such as smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors.
